SOE Partners with Enterprises to Educate High-level Integrated Talents

SOE recently initiated discussions with Shanghai Stock Exchange and Guotai Junan Securities(GTJA) Research Institute to explore new ways, new strategies and new approaches to educating finance and economics talents and to try to create a good platform that enables collaborative innovation between industry, higher education and research.

A delegation from Shanghai Stock Exchange, including Aiguo Huang, Head of the Investor Service Department, Yong He, leader of the national education project at the department, and Jiufu Zhang, project manager, visited the School on the afternoon of July 9 to discuss the possibility of developing and delivering a curriculum for the School’s graduate students. Dean Yahong Zhou, Associate Dean Jinxiong Chang, Assistant to the Dean Peihua Mao, Assistant to the Dean Yongchao Zhang and teaching secretaries attended the meeting.


Dean Zhou said that the School needs to partner with enterprises on the education of Master in Finance students, as the integration of industry and education will provide students with more practical training. Mr. Huang mentioned the concept of integrating investor education in the national education agenda and said that the partnerships with universities are critical to promote the integration of basic securities and futures knowledge and practice in the national education.

It was agreed that, drawing on its business expertise in the securities and finance, Shanghai Stock Exchange will partner with SOE to develop a quality course more focused on practical training, covering a range of topics including basic knowledge, key products such as stock and futures and their regulation, and trading knowledge. The course, a two-credit elective course, will be taught by a senior professional from Shanghai Stock Exchange. SOE and Shanghai Stock Exchange will also jointly build a student practice base. Last, SOE will invite senior professionals from Shanghai Stock Exchange to be part-time supervisors for Master in Finance students.

A delegation from GTJA Research Institute, including Yanming Huang, Director of GTJA Research Institute and Deputy Director of Securities Analysts and Investment Advisers Committee of the Securities Association of China, Limin Yao, Head of Recruiting department, and Kaida Wu, Strategy Analyst at GTJA, and SOE alumnus Chengxi Zhong, Chairman of Shuhuachengyan Data Technology Co. Ltd., visited SOE on the afternoon of July 20 and met with Dean Yahong Zhou, Associate Dean Jinxiong Chang, Assistant to the Dean Peihua Mao, and Assistant to the Dean Yongchao Zhang to discuss the possibility of collaboration between SOE and GTJA.


This meeting is held to promote partnership and communication between SOE and GTJA to build on their complementary strengths and accelerate the achievement of educating professional and high-end talents. Dean Zhou briefly introduced the School’s education concept of cultivating top-notch innovative talents in economics, the educational reform measures the School has taken in recent years and the achievements. Director Yanming Huang expressed GTJA’s positive attitude towards cooperation and its pressing need for talents. He hoped that, through university-industry cooperation in talent training, GTJA and SOE can integrate strengths, such as in the form of industry research and data support, conference support, etc., to maximize the output of benefit value.


The School and GTJA agreed during the meeting that both parties will build partnership generally in several areas: The School will recommend good-performing graduate student candidates for internship at GTJA; The post-doctoral station in GTJA will recruit doctoral graduates who intend to engage in research careers inside the university, where they can better understand the market and conduct research on industry issues. When returning to the university, these graduates can better integrate theory into practice in scientific research. This is a way for enterprises to use its strength to give back to the community; GTJA can provide training and career guidance for outstanding students with a particular professional focus. Other possible forms of partnership include collaborative research and jointly-held forums and seminars.

SOE has been committed to the transfer and innovative development of economic knowledge over the years and dedicated itself to educating high-end and innovative talents in economics who are attached to their nation of origin and internationally competitive. It has been exploring channels for training integrated talents and emphasizing close integration of industry, university, research and practice in the education, which will contribute to the construction of an innovative China.
